Wellington House Receives Funds for Affordable Housing
East Cambridge Savings Bank Supports the Salvation Army’s Wellington House
ARLINGTON, MASSACHUSETTS, … East Cambridge Savings Bank presented the Salvation Army’s Wellington House with a $5,000 donation. This donation was announced during the grand opening festivities of the Bank’s new Arlington office at 105 Broadway. The donation came from a commemorative gift of “affordable housing funds” presented in 2004 by East Cambridge Savings Bank’s Board to its Charitable Foundation in recognition of the Bank’s 150th Anniversary.
“We are pleased to support the affordability of housing at Wellington House,” states, Arthur C. Spears, president and chief executive officer of East Cambridge Savings Bank, “and we admire the dedicated efforts of the Salvation Army as they assist their clients in their recovery from the stigma of being identified as a “homeless.”
Wellington House is The Salvation Army’s 20-room Single Room Occupancy Housing (SRO) in Arlington. This facility operates in a former nursing home that was purchased in 1999 and renovated by The Salvation Army Cambridge Corps. The SRO concept is designed to accommodate those clients who would not do well living an independent life in an apartment at this time in their lives. Wellington House is the final step in the substantial effort made by the Salvation Army and the client in his/her recovery from the stigma of being identified as a “homeless” person. A successful stay at Wellington House enables clients to be looked upon as decent, hard working and productive members of our society.
“East Cambridge Savings Bank’s generous donation will support our Wellington House, Arlington program designed to assist previously homeless individuals as they seek to reestablish themselves,” states, Major Stephen Carroll, the Corps Commanding Officer.
East Cambridge Savings Bank, incorporated in 1854, with $750 million in assets, provides both businesses and individuals with a full line of banking services. The Bank is headquartered in Cambridge, MA with additional offices in Arlington, Belmont, Somerville, and Waltham, MA, and an educational training facility at Cambridge Rindge and Latin School, Cambridge, MA. The Bank is a member of FDIC and a member of DIF.
